It’s no secret that everyone’s skin needs a certain amount of oil to keep it healthy, but it becomes a problem if your skin produces too much. Let’s face it, oily skin is unpleasant to look at and can lead to acne flare-ups. Don’t fret though because there are simple things you can do to keep your oily skin under control!
Drink Lots of Water
We’ve all heard the saying “you are what you eat”, but did you know that this theory holds true for oily skin as well …except it’s “you are what you drink!” It’s important for women (and men for that matter) who have oily skin to stay hydrated. You should try to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to improve your skin’s appearance because drinking water actually detoxifies your body, and maintains your fluid balance as it controls your sebum production. Yay water!
Don’t Be Afraid of Moisturizer
I have had oily skin all of my adult life and have shied away from moisturizer because I was afraid it would only add to the shine. Boy was I wrong! When you don’t use a moisturizer your skin may excrete more oil than usual to compensate – yuck. Ever since I started using a moisturizer twice a day the shine on my face has dramatically decreased! I use a moisturizing gel in the morning under my makeup and a regular cream moisturizer at night before bed and am enjoying the effects of well hydrated (and not oily) skin!
