Review of True Blood Season 5 Episode 2

Oh boy, where do I begin?

**** Spolier Alert for anyone who hasn’t watched yet ****

As I mentioned in my Season 5 Episode 1 review, I am in no way shocked that Tara is pissed off about becoming a vampire. After being kidnapped, raped and almost killed by vampires the girl has a reason to hate them.

I guess this is where her “interesting” storyline comes in. Last week I wondered how they would make the newborn vamp storyline work again (already played out with Jess), but I guess Tara’s story will focus a lot less on that and more on her now rocky relationship with Lafayette and Sookie who approved her transformation without her consent.

Review of True Blood Season 5 Episode 1

Ok, I know I’m really late with my review of True Blood Season 5 Episode 1 but better late than never, right?

**** Spolier Alert for anyone who hasn’t watched yet ****

First off: WTF. Tara as a vampire? This is not a compelling story line at all. Tara hated vampires because she was victimized by them. In an interview (see video below) Alan Ball said the True Blood writing team wanted to find a way to transform Tara from the victim into someone with power. Well, let me see, last time I checked, having your life completely changed by a vampire without your consent means you have been victimized by a vampire …again. Bad.

And beyond all that I just can’t see where they can go from here that will be all that exciting from a viewer stand point. Yeah, we’ll see Tara’s character change, but what’s the actual storyline going to be? Because the storyline of someone being changed against her will and then learning to be a vamp has already been played out through Jessica. I guess only time will tell.

New season of True Blood is just days away!

In my Three Awesome Summer Shows post I mentioned my love for True Blood. Now we’re just days away from the season premier and Entertainment Weekly has released 11 different covers each featuring a different True Blood character.  I remember back in the day when magazines would release five different covers each with a different member of NSYNC gracing the cover – and I thought that was an excessive way to conjure up sales. ELEVEN covers seems just a bit crazy, especially since I could probably fairly accurately pick which ones will be the best sellers without batting my eyes. Oh well.

Alcide from True Blood on EW coverWe all know I’m partial to Alcide, but I’m sure it’s accurate to say that the Sookie, Eric, Bill and Lafayette covers will also fly off the shelves. The Tara cover might do okay just because of the way her character was left at the end of last season (you know, potentially dead), but I’m personally getting a little annoyed by her.

I‘d rather they actually kill off Tara and bring in someone to play Amelia Broadway. If you haven’t read the Southern Vampire Mysteries, the books that the show is based off of, I’ll give you a quick rundown. Amelia is witch who turns her boyfriend into a cat and becomes one of Sookie’s best friends. She casually dates Pam for a while but once her boyfriend becomes human again she gets back together with him.

Three awesome shows to watch this summer

You know what drives me absolutely crazy about summer shows? They come on for two months and then POOF – they’re gone for almost a full year. The last episode of any season is pretty much guaranteed to be a cliff hanger and that just makes life really rough! I know, first world problems… but seriously!

Now that summer is officially upon us, three of my favorite shows are coming back on and I couldn’t be more excited! If you’re looking for something to watch, you should definitely check these three shows out!

Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime): Funny/lighthearted/romantic/girly

Ok, I know. The name of the show is pretty lame and Lifetime isn’t exactly a channel aimed at women in their mid-twenties, but I LOVE this show. A woman (in her mid-20s!) who also happens to be a gorgeous model dies and goes to heaven. Once up there she pushes the “return button” and gets sent back to earth but in the body of someone else: a plus-sized lawyer.

She lives in the same city as her former-self and ends up encountering many of the same people she used to know; the catch is she can’t tell anyone who she really is … especially her ex-finance who is now her colleague at the law firm. Once a total ditz, our lead star develops into a super smart lawyer who truly cares about her clients.

Okay, I admit this whole thing may sound a little crazy, but if you liked Legally Blonde I’m pretty positive you’ll love this show too!

You can watch the first three seasons on Netflix instant! The first episode of this season just aired on June 3rd so hurry and catch up before the season ends!
